The Asset Library is a single, centralized tool in Play Console where you can upload, manage, and reuse all of your app's graphic assets.
Using the Asset Library helps you save time and maintain brand consistency across your main store listing, custom store listings, store listing experiments, and events. All your screenshots, icons, and feature graphics are available in one place, making it easy to find and use or reuse the right creative for any purpose.
How to access the Asset Library
The Asset Library opens in a side panel automatically whenever you are on a page that uses graphic assets.
To open the library:
- Open Play Console.
- Go to a page where you manage graphics. For example, in the left menu, go to Store presence > Custom store listings and click Create custom store listing.
- Under a graphics section, such as "App icon" or "Feature graphic," click Add assets. The Asset Library will open on the right side of your screen.
Adding assets to the library
You can add new assets from your computer or import them directly from your Google Drive.
- From your computer: At the bottom of the Asset Library panel, click Upload and select one or more files from your computer.
- From Google Drive: Click Add from Drive. You may need to grant Play Console permission to access your Google Account. Once connected, you can browse and select one or more images from your Drive.
Cropping your assets
When you upload a new image that doesn't perfectly match the required aspect ratio for a specific slot (for example, a rectangular image for a square app icon), a cropping tool will appear automatically.
- You can choose from preset aspect ratios (like App icon) or select Custom to define your own crop area.
- Click Save as copy to add the newly cropped image to your library without altering the original file.
Using your assets
Once your graphics are in the Asset Library, you can easily add them to any store listing, experiment, or event.
Organizing and finding your assets
The Asset Library provides powerful search and filtering tools to help you quickly find the exact graphic you need.
Using filters and search
- Search: Use the "Search images" bar at the top of the panel to find assets by their filename or tag.
- Filters: Click the Filter button to narrow your results. You can combine multiple filters. Categories include:
- Aspect ratio: Find images that match specific dimensions, such as 1:1 square or 16:9 landscape.
- Language: Locate assets that you have uploaded for specific localized store listings, experiments, or events.
- Type: Filter by the asset's intended placement, such as App icon or Phone screenshot.
- Used in: See which assets are currently used in a store listing or event or are being tested in a store listing experiment.
- Tag: Find assets based on pre-assigned tags, or custom tags you have created.
Using tags to organize assets
Tags are custom labels that you can apply to assets to help you group and find them later. This is useful for organizing assets by theme, campaign, or app version (for example, "Q4-promo," "summer-event," "new-feature-launch").
To apply tags to an asset:
- In the Asset Library, select one or more assets you want to tag. The asset details panel will appear.
- Click Manage tags.
- You can either:
- Search for an existing tag and check the box next to it.
- Type a new tag name and click Create new.
- Click Apply tags to save your changes.
Managing individual assets
Select any asset in the library to open its details panel, where you can:
- View asset details like file name, dimensions, and file size.
- Manage tags to add or remove tags.
- Crop the image into a new copy with different dimensions.
- Delete the asset from already added into upload box by clicking the trash can icon.
